San Francisco

Going down south for a week and a half. Leaving in a few minutes. Which means there may not be very many updates coming for the foreseeable future. But expect pictures when I return...

Monkey Throw Feces

Check it out. Monkey Throw Feces has topped 2000 downloads overall. Yes, David Cross has surpassed us. But we're number eleven in total downloads (amongst the comedy set). And that's pretty good. Right?

"Looks" and Eternal Sunshine.

Last week I received Mike Doughty's rereleases of Skittish and Rockity Roll in the mail. I'd already pirated both from various locations, so was very familiar with most of the tunes in question (although there were five bonus tracks included, only three of which already haunted my hard drive). Which means there wasn't much of a surpirse. But it had been a while since I listened to Skittish in particular. And for whatever reason, "Looks" hit me hard. It is a splenderific song, full of emotion. And I got to thinking how it hit me in much the same as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I'm not sure I can describe the connection, but "Looks" and Eternal Sunshine bear a similar theme, or undercurrent, or something that is powerful. I suggest hearing and watching both repeatedly in the near future...

New story.

Almost done.

Just finished my Business Associations exam. Difficult, to say the least. Probably, content-wise, the most difficult class I've taken in law school to date. And one of the more difficult exams, depending upon how one looks at it. So only Patents to go, and that is a take-home not due until next Friday. So drinking is in order for the next couple of days, I would expect. Yes, I think that would be a good idea.

Exams.

Sorry there haven't been many updates to Yodelling Llama lately. It is exam time, and my brain is not exactly geared toward that sort of thing. And what little funny I did have to spare has been expended working on inter alia as of late. Expect an update or three in a few days.

IMDb, 2004.

While I realize we only just beached December, I thought I'd look at the top-rated films on IMDb. Just for shits and giggles. Now IDMb doesn't actually compile individual years. [They do compile decades, like the 90s, which, interestingly enough, is topped by The Shawshank Redemption; good for you, Tim Robbins.] So I had to get creative with their PowerSearch. First glance, I'd never heard of most of the top films. Why? They are little seen foreign films of little significance, skewed to the top by too few voters. So I limited my power search to only those with at least 2000 votes. The top ten films of 2004, according to IMDb voters, are:

  1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  2. Garden State
  3. Before Sunset
  4. Finding Neverland
  5. The Incredibles
  6. Kill Bill: Vol. 2
  7. Ray
  8. The Motorcycle Diaries
  9. Spider-Man 2
  10. Shaun of the Dead

I'm willing to bet that the Academy ignores half of these completely in major categories. Does this mean the Academy is stupid? Or that IMDb voters are stupid? Yes.
