GLBT vs. LGBT.

Could someone please explain why one would be used, as opposed to the other?

according to Wikipedia, "Some variants are local alterations that are used to the exclusion of others by virtue of being commonplace in a region. For example, in Minnesota the term GLBT is more prominent."

You don't think I checked Wikipedia already? That doesn't explain the change, it merely explains the variation. Which would be a fine explanation but for the fact that I have observed, over the past few years, an actual change in usage. In regions where GLBT was acceptable and appropriate five years ago, it is now frowned upon without comment. Why?

I think it SHOULD be GLBT because, GAY can refer to both men and women and 2 if you think it doesn't then there are more gay men than lesbians
